Materials for Families – Sunday 17 May

Ephesians #4 LOVED IN CHRIST

Grab a tape measure and join Ed, Jam and Amy. More fun facts, fighting the virus, music and the whiparound question. We’re back with Ephesians 3:16-21, finding out how Jesus’s love for us is so high, deep, wide and long. Listen together, enjoy and be encouraged.

Planning when to do this

The podcast is about 30 minutes long. I’d encourage you to do one of the following as a family:

  1. Choose a good time and place that works for you as a family to listen to the podcast together (craft activities to do at the same time are below). Make that your Sunday time with God as a family. Then join the FBC livestream in addition to that, and children can join in with as much as they can.
  2. Join in with the FBC livestream at 10am, and then move on to using the activities here during the sermon – when children would normally go to their groups. Parents can catch up with the sermon etc. later.

The Faith in kids podcast is available wherever you normally get your podcasts from, including Spotify and Apple Podcast. Click here for more details.

CRAFT IDEAS

There are four ideas below, including a cutting and sticking activity, a colouring sheet, and an activity you could do after a family walk.

Use the crafts and colouring sheets while you listen to the podcast (make sure you’ve got the materials you need first!). And use them to reinforce the teaching ideas.

The printable sheet for this week is here. All the instructions below are also included on the sheet – if you’d prefer just to hit print and then stop looking at screen, go ahead!

Here are Ed’s discussion questions:

Under 5s.

What is the biggest thing you can imagine?

5-7s

How big is Jesus’ love?

8-11s

What is your favourite of Jesus’ sizes of love? Wide, long, high, or deep?

Over 11s

Think of a prayer that you would only dare to pray because of how huge God’s love is.

Idea 1 – Hands

Print the hands from pages 1 and 2 of the printable sheet onto card, or onto paper and stick onto a sheet of card and cut them out.

Colour and decorate, then attach a strip of stiff card or a lolly stick or stick from the garden to a back of each wrist, so that you can hold on to them and show how BIG God’s love is …

… but you won’t be able to!

Idea 2 – Look Around

Go for a walk or go into your garden. Look around – what is the highest/tallest thing that you can see? The most massive thing? The widest thing? The longest thing? Maybe you could go outside when it’s dark? – what can you see that is the most far away?

Think about how big God’s love is! – look in the Bible and read or listen to Ephesians 3 v 16-21

Think about how big God’s love is for you! – look in the Bible and read or listen to Psalm 139 v 1-18

Idea 3 – String

Get a ball of string or wool. How far will it go around the room or house or garden?

Pretend it is God’s love – although it is no where near long enough!

Write or draw prayers on pieces of paper – things you want to tell or ask God about, or things you want to thank Him for.

Peg your prayers along the line of His love. His love is always more than we can ever need.

Idea 4 – Colouring Sheet

Print page 4 of the printable sheet.

Colour it in!

Use it to talk about today’s teaching.
