Travelling with Jesus #5 – A LAKE
Ed and Jam are travelling with Jesus to a lake! More fun facts fight off with old lakes, new lakes, cold lakes and a boiling one! We’re in Matthew 14:22-32 when Jesus walks on the water. And so does Peter! For a little while. And then he sinks.
Planning when to do this
Hopefully you’ve getting into the swing of things now. For more thoughts on how and when to use these ideas, see the intro from a few week’s ago.

CRAFT IDEAS
There are six ideas below, four for over 5s and two for under 5s. Feel free to use any that you think will serve you well.
Use the crafts and colouring sheets while you listen to the podcast (make sure you’ve got the materials you need first!). And use them to reinforce the teaching ideas.
The printable sheet for over 5s this week is here.
For under 5s the first idea can be found on this printable sheet and the Free Bible Image’s PowerPoint is here and the story to go with the pictures is here.
All the instructions below are also included on the sheet – if you’d prefer just to hit print and then stop looking at the screen, go ahead!
Here are Ed’s discussion questions:
Try all the questions if you can, they get harder as you go!

Idea 1 – Questions
What makes you scared or afraid?
Think and talk together about things that make you afraid, worried or unsure.
Do you think that Jesus loves you and wants to help you with these things?
Do you think He is always there and can always be trusted?
Read or listen to Matthew 14:22-32
What did Jesus’ friends think and feel when they saw Jesus walking towards them on the water?– v26
What did Jesus say to them? – v27
What did Peter try to do? – v29
What did Peter allow to worry him and make him afraid? – v30
What had Peter stopped doing? Read again what Jesus said to Peter – v31
We need to trust Jesus to help us with our fears. He loves us. He is always there. He is in charge. We are safe. He is trustworthy – so don’t be afraid.
Idea 2 – Footprints Poster
Help each other make footprints of your feet.
You could each draw around your feet or, if you’re feeling brave, paint the soles of each other’s feet with poster paint and make foot prints on some white paper. (You’ll need to have something handy to wash and dry your feet with afterwards!) Cut out your footprints.
Now think about some of those things that worry you, that you need to trust Jesus to help you with. Write them on your footprints and then stick your footprints onto a big background sheet of paper or card. You could make the background look like water by painting, colouring or collaging it blue. (See Idea 1. Page 2.)
Write the title – ‘Jesus is Lord – Trust In Him – Matthew 14:22-32’ on a strip of paper and glue it to your poster.
Jesus wanted Peter to keep looking at Him and trusting Him, but Peter took his eyes off Jesus and focused on his fears instead. He doubted, but what did Jesus do? – v31.
Spend some time together talking to Jesus and thanking Him that He loves us and we can trust Him in all our fears. Ask Him to help you to keep your eyes on Him and not to doubt.
Look at the example on page 2 of the printable sheet.
Idea 3 – Colouring
Print pages 3 and 5 of the printable sheet.
Idea 4 – Puzzles
Print page 4 of the printable sheet.

Idea 2 for under 5s – Story
