Ephesians #8 HAPPY FAMILIES

Get a knife, fork and spoon as Ed and Jam find out what a belly builder is, as well as find out what God is like and what makes a Happy Family as we read on in Ephesians 5:21-6:4. Amy keeps on fighting the virus and music, Who I Am, from Awesome Cutlery.

Planning when to do this

Hopefully you’ve getting into the swing of things now. For more thoughts on how and when to use these ideas, see the intro from a few week’s ago.

The Faith in kids podcast is available wherever you normally get your podcasts from, including Spotify and Apple Podcast. Click here for more details.

CRAFT IDEAS

There are five ideas below, three for under 11s and two for over 11s. Feel free to use any that you think will serve you will.

Use the crafts and colouring sheets while you listen to the podcast (make sure you’ve got the materials you need first!). And use them to reinforce the teaching ideas.

The printable sheet for this week is here, page 4 is for over 11s.

All the instructions below are also included on the sheet – if you’d prefer just to hit print and then stop looking at screen, go ahead!

Here are Ed’s discussion questions:

Under 5s.

Knife, fork, spoon. What do you use each of these for?

5-7s

Knife, fork, spoon. God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit: what does each one do?

8-11s

Mum, dad, child. What does each one do according to the Bible.

Over 11s

Mum, dad, child; who do you think has the hardest role, and why?

Idea 1 – Listening Ears

In Ephesians God tells us the best way to live as happy families under Him. We are all different and each have a different role or place in our family.

As husbands and wives, mums and dads and children, we all need to listen to Him and do as He says.

In this way we can be obedient to the Lord – pleasing Him with the way we live and showing love to everyone in our family.

Print the pairs of ears on page 2 of the printable sheet – you’ll need one pair of ears for each member of your family. Carefully colour and cut out your ears. Make a band of paper or card to fit around your head and attach your ears each side. All put your ears on ………. are you ready to listen?

Idea 2 – Balloon Game

Blow up 6 party balloons and use a permanent marker pen to draw a family member on each balloon. Now write the Bible reference that matches with that person and you could also write the first word of the verse, as a prompt.

Idea 3 – Colouring Page

Print page 4 of the printable sheet. Then you know what to do, right?!

Idea 1 for over 11s

Page 5 of the printable sheet.

Idea 2 for over 11s

1. Draw faces for your parents, yourself and your sibling(s), if you have them.

2. Read Ephesians 5:21 – 6:4.

3. Write each person’s role according to Ephesians.

4. For each person, write a prayer of thanks and a prayer request.

Feedback

Well done for making it to this point!

There’s only one podcast in Ephesians left, so it’d be really helpful to have your feedback to help as plan for where we go next.
