Who are we? Farnham Baptist Church consists of a wide range of different people, from all ages and different backgrounds. Whoever you are you are assured a very warm welcome.
When you arrive: If you are driving then you'll be pleased to hear that there is plenty of free parking right beside the church. For directions to reach us please see the Finding Us page, where you will find a map of the confusing centre of Farnham. If you prefer Google Maps enter our postcode of GU9 7HA. You'll be greeted at the door by our welcoming team who will give you our weekly leaflet about the service and notices of forthcoming events.
What to wear: This is easy. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people as they are.
What to expect: For some people going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here's a quick summary of what you can expect at FBC. We have all been ‘first timers’ once.
We meet at 9.15 am, and repeat the meeting at 11 am. You will notice a group of musicians who lead us in a range of songs, some contemporary others traditional, to help us express our praise to God. The person leading the meeting will pray and mention events that are coming up (most in-house details are printed in the weekly bulletin). We will also take up an offering, by passing round a bag, so that people can contribute financially. Visitors are usually reminded that this is for regulars in particular; most people give by a standing order arrangement.
One of the church members will read a passage from the Bible, and one of our ministers will explain what the passage means and how it applies to us today. (There is a church Bible in every seat and the reader announces the page number so we can all follow the reading.) You won’t be asked to stand up, come to the front or be embarrassed in any way!
After the 9.15 am meeting tea and coffee is served. If you are coming for the 11 am meeting, come earlier and meet others for coffee. Our aim is that whether you are just looking into Christianity for the first time, or have been a Christian for many years, you should be encouraged and inspired by the morning. We hope that everyone will draw closer to God.
What about children?: We are all together for the first 20 minutes or so, usually with a brief item intended for the children. Then we have a whole range of activities in different rooms for each age group, with lots of leaders. There are groups up to year 6 at 9.15 am, and up to year 9 at the 11 am service. There is also a crèche for the very small ones. The stewards will show you which room is for your children’s age. The list of children’s groups is here.
