Home Groups

What is a Home-group?
An opportunity to meet once a week in a small group, to read God’s Word together, pray together and get to know one another.

Why go to a Home-group?
Even Jesus needed to retreat from the crowds with his disciples and he demonstrated to us the benefits of being in a small group. There were many things that the disciples didn’t understand but being together gave them the opportunity to raise their questions. We can’t promise to answer every question but in home-groups we can discuss God’s Word and learn together.

What role do Home-groups play within the church?
In the book of Ephesians the church is described as a body with a structure, ‘held together by every supporting ligament [which] grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.’ (Ephesians 4:16). We believe that home-groups play an important part in building and developing relationships that strengthen the church.

What if I can’t get there every week?
Not everyone can get to a home-group every week. However, by going when you can, you will get to know others in the fellowship who will be able to support you and pray for you when you can’t be there.

Which of the seven groups should I join?
We recommend that you try the group nearest to where you live. But we also suggest that you visit other home-groups to see where you feel the most comfortable. There are several groups meeting in and around Farnham on Wednesday evenings at 8 pm and one group which meets at the church on Thursday mornings from 10.15 am.

I have never been to a home-group before; what will be expected of me? Nothing! Our aim is to get to know you and when you are ready you can contribute as much or as little as you like.

Curriculum

We provide a varied and interesting programme of Bible studies which includes all the books in the Bible. The New Testament and Old Testament are studied in a ratio of 3:2 and we include ‘theme’ studies.

Prayer Meetings

Our home-groups play a role in leading the prayer meetings at FBC.

Social Events

Most of the groups organise social events during the year. It’s a great way to get to know others in the fellowship.
